metaphor - a comparison of things which are quite unlike (abstract vs. precise) --> to create a picture in your mind/create a story (here: it will take long, will be like a journey on a long rugged path)
anithesis - opposite of an idea already put forward --> to stress own thesis (here: old values prepare country to meet new challenges)
anaphoara - repetition of words/groups of words in the beginning of sentences --> to emphasise (here: what we do nowwe will do for our next generations, us = create social cohesion)
repetition - repetition of words in succeeding sentences --> to emphasise (here: to minimize something unimportant)

Barack Obama became President of the USA in January 2009. The expectations were high.
America's reputation was at an all-time low. The country was involved in two unpopular and expensive wars. The healthcare system was a disaster, the economy was in the worst state of crisis since the 1930s. The mojority of Americans felt he could be the person to lead the country and make a change. Today I want you to listen carefully to his inauguration speech (Amtseinführungsrede) in order to find out what he aims to do. |
